Condor border 1935.32.0129
A bird, wings uplifted, viewed from one side. It has a comb and a white ruff like the male Peruvian condor (Vultur gryphus). Each bird is placed in a square of varying colour – red bird on green background and vice versa, blue bird on yellow background and vice versa. The border may have been part of a mantle or skirt.
Material and technique
Embroidered in woollen yarn on plain-woven woollen fabric. The embroidery is in stem-stitch in colour-field style.

Paracas Necropolis, Temprano 1 (c. 100 AD – 200 AD)
