Black mantle figure with stave 1935.32.0208
Anthropoid figure, that seems to be dressed in a tunic or poncho, loincloth and anklets. The figure has a painted face and on its head is a headdress and a round object. One hand holds a striped staff, the other hand a spear. The figures on the mantle alternately face right and left; some of them are also inverted.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE
Embroidered in camelid fibre yarn on camelid fibre plain weave cloth. The mantle consists of two pieces sewn together. Embroidery is in block colour style, using stem stitch.
DATING AND ORIGIN
Paracas Necrópolis, Intermedio Temprano 1 (ca 100 BCE – 100 CE)
